Arriving at Housei felt welcoming despite a rainy start. The staff greeted me with warmth and explained the onsen facilities thoroughly. I enjoyed a spacious room with a private onsen, a delightful surprise. The beds were surprisingly comfortable, even on tatami mats. Breakfast offered a great spread of traditional dishes, especially the varied soups. I appreciated the complimentary shuttle service to the Snow Monkey Park. it made my visit easy and enjoyable. However, the property's age showed with some cleanliness issues. I noticed a stain on a futon. Also, the sliding door to the outside space was a tease since access was restricted, and there were some lingering odors, possibly from the plumbing. A bit more attention to these details could elevate the experience significantly.

My stay was wonderful with the stunning onsen experience and the delightful breakfast options that included authentic local dishes, making it a true taste of Japan. I really enjoyed how easy it was to walk to Yumiya Shrine and discover the peaceful surroundings as I strolled around the area, feeling completely immersed in the local culture, which was a huge plus for my weekend getaway, though the hotel could use a bit of modernization for a more updated feel.

The Economy Japanese-Style Room was clean and spacious. I really enjoyed the tatami mats, but sleeping on them felt a bit like camping. The private onsen was such a cool surprise, and the view from the room was serene. The bathroom had a nice shower and all the essentials. Only downside was that the room looked a bit dated, which didn't affect my comfort but was noticeable. Overall, I slept well and felt relaxed during my stay.
